Meanwhile, in its quest to illustrate the capabilities of the People, the ConstitutionDAO—an online group–has failed to acquire the last privately owned, first edition copy of the U.S. constitution on Sotheby’s despite raising over $48 million from more than 17.5k users.
Instead, auction records show that the “The ‘Official Edition’ of The United States Constitution” was won by an anonymous bidder for around $43 million inclusive of fees. It was one of the remaining 13 copies of the first edition, print copies of the defining U.S. constitution.
While this wasn’t the outcome we hoped for, we still made history tonight with ConstitutionDAO. This is the largest crowdfund for a physical object that we are aware of – crypto or fiat. We are so incredibly grateful to have done this together with you all and are still in shock that we even got this far.
