While security, scalability and transactions are processed on the Ardor main chain, Ignis operates on its own and has its own native currency, IGNIS.
This split of functionality means the main platform will be very limited with most functionality ported over to child chains including Ignis. Besides, there will be a lot of features available on Ignis including coin phasing, shuffling, coin market place and asset exchange. Security will be provided by the main chain and with most characteristic features of NXT platform will still be evident.
Ignis reports to ardor meaning the day to day transactions that take place on the blockchain are reported to ardor. The fee that is always in IGNIS tokens is paid to ARDR which is the cryptocurrency for Ardor.
IGNIS is a non-mineable crypto therefore one has to purchase it through various exchange platforms like HitBTC, Bittrex and UpBit. The IGNIS coin can be purchased if paired with Bitcoin or Ethereum on those exchange platforms. Since Ignis is built on the NXT blockchain, IGNIS coins can be stored at the NXT wallet.
